Just about everyone has had, or knows someone who has had, a paranormal experience. Aside from the vast amount of first-hand encounters, including spirit photographs, there is also a growing amount of scientific documentation of the existence of ghosts. If life is comprised of energy; and energy cannot be extinguished; then spirit survival of death is a proven fact. If you don't believe me, perhaps you will believe Thomas Edison. In his later years Thomas Edison not only was certain of the existence of spirits, but he was determined to build a machine that would be able to communicate with them. Unfortunately, Mr. Edison passed to the other side before he could complete his invention.

Perhaps Mr. Edison's determination to speak with spirits was based on his own paranormal experiences. Maybe, his interest was peaked because of stories he had heard others tell of the unexplained or of written accounts he had studied. Ghosts and spirits have been seen, felt and feared for centuries. They have been a part of documented history since man has kept a record of his life and environment. Homer, the Greek poet, wrote of ghosts as benign spirits who didn't bother the living. In Rome, (A.D. 62) Pliny the Younger wrote to his patron reporting that a villa in Athens was haunted by a resident ghost. Even in the Bible there are passages in the Old and New Testaments that refer to ghosts and the soul surviving death. In I. Samuel Chapter 28 Saul sought out and took counsel in a psychic medium.

Paranormal events occur around us every day. Most times we think nothing about them because it's easier for our minds to dismiss the unexplained then to deal with them. Here are some common examples of paranormal occurrences:

Spirit Sightings

You see something out of the corner of your eye, but when you turn your head to look in the same area straight on, there is nothing there. Usually it doesn't take long, however, before someone who can see spirits out of the corner of their eye begins to see them straight on.

Reincarnation

You travel to a new place and have a strong feeling that you've been there before, although you know you have not in this life time.

You meet someone and feel as though you have known them for a long time, or you have an instant rapport or unexplained dislike for the person almost instantly.

You have a strong affinity for a certain place or era, and enjoy reading about it.

You have an unrealistic fear of heights, or of water, but nothing in this lifetime has contributed to that fear.

These are all indications that you have lived before. One way to figure out where and when you lived in th past is to write down everything you feel attracted to, foods that you like or intensly dislike, areas of the world you've always wanted to travel to, etc. Once you have written down your likes and dislikes, you can determine where and when you lived before. Another excellent way to determine your past lives is to be hypnotized by a professional. One can learn a great deal about why they react to things in this life by exploring their past existances.

Spirit Manifestation

You are in a room and suddenly the atmosphere becomes very cold, or "thick"--as if you are standing in a pool of water and you can feel something unseen move about the room around you. Temperature and atmospheric changes are almost always associated with the presence of a spirit.

You hear sounds that cannot be explained by physical excuses. Hearing someone walk down a hallway or up and down a stairway are common ghostly manifestations.

Something in your home or office is always in the same place, but one day you find it moved or missing with no plausible explanation. Missing objects is one of the most common ways a spirit makes itself known. Sometimes the missing item is returned, often in the same place as it had always had been; other times the object is never seen again. I guess it just depends on how playful the ghost is. This occurs often with pennies. For some reason spirits like to move pennies. If you think you have uninvited spirit guests, try leaving out a stack of pennies, and watch what happens over a period of a few days to a few weeks.

Precognition

You have a dream and the next day, or within days, your dream comes true. Many sensitives display their gifts only in the dream state. A prime example of this would be the well-known psychic, Edgar Cayce. Mr. Cayce would go into a self-induced trance state and was able to diagnose the illnesses of people thousands of miles away.

You walk by a phone and know it's going to ring, and it does.

Something runs through your mind, and seconds later your spouse or close friend begins talking about the same thing that you were just thinking about.

Christine B. has been interested in the paranormal since she was a child. Her interest began when her grandmother relayed stories of people who had passed and contacted her on a regular basis. From 1969 through 1981 Christine and her family lived in a haunted house. During this time she had many experiences and encounters with the home's uninvited inhabitants.
